Our first stop was an overnight stay in Kilkenny. We chose to do the tour of Kilkenny castle. It was gorgeous, spectacular, but no strollers allowed. This made sense to me, it's a historic place furnished with period pieces. We decided to try it. I planned to hold my son for most of the tour. We only made it through the first stop. The tour guide definitely had the gift for gab, and he was sharing many interesting stories of the castle history and transformation through the years. My one year old did not care. I took him outside and let him run around while my mom continued the tour.
Castle grounds are great for toddlers. Beautiful lawn, some walking paths, and a breathtaking view at times. We explored the outside until my mom came out to meet us.
We then decided to explore the Kilkenny Design Centre. So many beautiful Irish made crafts and gifts there, I did some Christmas shopping, and then we had a filling warm lunch. Some friendly locals came up and spoke with Oliver (he's pretty popular). We settled in for the evening at our hotel, where there was a wedding (first of two hotel weddings we saw during our trip!).
Read on to hear about the next stop, on which we traveled on to Cashel, one of my favorite places!
